Prison Island & Giant Tortoises

A short boat hop to meet the 150-year-old giant tortoises, with snorkelling and history thrown in.

A quick dhow ride off Stone Town to Changuu, better known as Prison Island. The headline act is the colony of Aldabra giant tortoises, some pushing 150 years old, that you can walk among and feed. Add the old quarantine-station ruins and a snorkel off the beach and it is a perfect easy half-day.
